I love all things artistic and creative, and makeup is definitely on that list. Almost every girl has her set of holy grail products and I am always adding to my collection. I do love some high end products but you know your girl is balling on a budget, especially in college! So I thought I would compile my list of drugstore makeup items that I use almost everyday.
First off, I would like to say that I am not a makeup artist but this is what works best for me as my own personal opinions but I do hope it can help you out. Also, I have oily, acne-prone skin so these products may not work the best for your skin type.
Let’s start off with primer! I do not use primer everyday but when I do, it is usually for when I will be wearing my makeup for a long period of time. My drugstore pick would be the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. It feels very smooth and does what it claims!
Foundation is a major part of my routine because I have acne prone skin. With that being said, I usually go for a medium to full coverage foundation. The L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation in the shade Caramel Beige (#108) is my go to for almost everyday. It covers my problem skin and does not irritate it. It also comes in a Pro-Glow, if you have dry skin or even prefer a dewy look. I just go for the matte because my oily skin usually balances it out.
I, personally, use a separate primer for eyeshadows but you could even use concealer or double the use of your face primer. My drugstore choice would be the Milani Eyeshadow primer which holds up really well throughout the day and does not crease. Just don’t use it when you have really dry eyelids because it will flake. Moisturizing your eyelids prior to this step could help this problem. Also, a little goes a long way so do not be hesitant by the amount given in the product!
For concealer, I like to use the Maybelline Fit Me concealer in the shade Sand Sable (#20) which is actually a well known drugstore dupe for the NARS concealer. They both work well, don’t cake up, and aren’t too harsh for photo backlight. They also come in a variety of shades so they can work for both highlighting and concealing pimples or dark spots.
Although I usually like to fill in my eyebrows with a pencil or a pomade, I grab my L’Oreal Brow Gel mascara, in the color Medium to Dark, for a quick on-the-go alternative. It easily thickens and places your brows within a few swipes to give it more shape. It only comes in two shades but they match pretty decently to my eyebrows.
I use the NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder for both bronzing, contouring, and eyeshadow. Warmer colors compliment my skin more and bring “life” back into my face. I reuse my bronzer for eyeshadow just to give more depth into my eyelids since I barely have a crease. Reusing the bronzer as eyeshadow also ties in all the complementing colors within your makeup color palette.
I haven’t been wearing eyeliner for the past recent months because I feel as though my lashes look longer when I don’t wear it but I usually go for a felt tip liquid liner. The Maybelline Master Precise Liquid eyeliner is easy to maneuver and gives off a solid black pigment. Although this is my go-to drugstore eyeliner, it may run or smear easily if you tend to get teary eyed or have monolids. I am still on the lookout for a similar waterproof alternative to it.
My favorite part of my makeup routine is mascara. If nothing else, I have to have my mascara. My all time favorite drugstore mascara is the L'Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Rock mascara but it was discontinued so you would have to look at places like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, or even Amazon to find it. This mascara gave me lengthy and thick lashes without looking spider-like. Almost as though I had eyelash extensions! There is an original L’oreal Miss Manga mascara with a fiber wand applicator, which I have not tried because I usually prefer plastic wand applicators. My favorite “still on the market” drugstore mascara is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara which also has a plastic wand and lengthens your lashes really well.
I like to top off my face makeup with a highlighter for that extra glow. I use the Milani Baked blush in the shade Luminoso (#05) as well as the the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glow Illuminator in Golden (W102). The blush gives off a more shimmery pink while the illuminator shows up more gold-ish.
Lastly, I take my Vaseline Lip Therapy balm in the flavor Rosy Lips. I prefer this balm over a lipstick because it keeps my lips hydrated while also giving a bit of a natural pink color. It has a rosewater scent which smells refreshing and I have had this for quite a few months but I still have plenty of product left!
So those are my personal favorite drugstore makeup. Once again I am not a makeup artist but I hope you this helped you out and gave you a decent review on some products. All the products mentioned will be listed down below. I'll talk to you guys soon!
